weekend places to visit in vegas

The Bars You Should Hit on a Weekend in Vegas

What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas – but that doesn’t mean we can’t give you some recommendations of where to go! The strip has hundreds of bars, restaurants, shows, and activities, so many that there’s something there for everyone.

It could take you months, if not years, to visit all the bars and see everything there is to see, so if you only have a weekend in Vegas, you’d be smart to plan ahead. Since there are so many choices, we’ve laid out some of the most popular bars and lounges on the strip right now.

Whether you’re looking for a below-freezing experience, a world-renowned selection of bourbon, or live music – we have recommendations for you below!

Fat Tuesday

People have different ideas about Vegas. If you think of those crazy drink containers that you can only find on vacation in tropical places, in New Orleans, or at theme parks – then you’ll love Fat Tuesday. They’re a Bourbon street bar that comes straight from Louisana. No matter the time of year, you can always find the Mardi Gras spirit here.

Their famous drinks include the 190 Octane Daiquiri and their wide selection of frozen alcoholic slushies. You can even mix and match flavors to make a creation all of your own! And with Vegas’ open container law, this is the perfect place to start if you’re day drinking. Those crazy cups are perfect to walk around with!

Just be careful – those drinks taste so good, they’re almost dangerous!

The Millenium Fandom Bar

Do you like to cosplay? Are you someone who loves to get immersed into “other” worlds so you can take a break from the monotony of reality for a bit? Do you feel out of place in bars and clubs where the floor is sticky, and the music is too loud to hold a conversation?

Well, then you’ll love the Fandom bar. They’ve created this place as a haven for people just like you – and there are events that give every fandom their time in the spotlight. The bar is even decorated with memorabilia from all sorts of fandoms, from Harry Potter to Star Trek.

Not only is this a cosplay bar, where coming in costume is accepted, but it’s encouraged! How else will your fellow fandom fans know your magical land of choice?

They serve regular cocktails with creative names and have a wide selection of beer. They have a selection of small bites but don’t count on having a full meal. Their menu is more like bar snacks to enjoy with your friends.

If you get there early enough (they open most days at five), you could snap some unique pictures for Instagram. Your feed will love the retro feel.

If you self-identify as a nerd or a geek, this bar is totally worth the Taxi or Uber off the strip. And if you’re ever in Paris and want a similar experience, look up “The Last Bar at the End of the World.”

The Golden Tiki

If you settled on a vegas trip instead of an international trip to the islands, you’ll get the best of both worlds at The Golden Tiki. Once you’re inside, you’ll forget you’re in a landlocked desert and be transported to an island paradise. Not only do the drinks come in cool island-themed cups, but the decorations are thematic at well.

The main bar has a palm frond roof, which houses a wide variety of exotic liquors. If you’ve ever been to The Tonga Room in San Fransisco, it’s similar, minus the indoor boat and floating musicians.

This is another place that your Instagram will love – but only if you get there early and know how to use lightroom. It’s dark inside to maintain the island theme, and it gets crowded quickly on weekends. Check their events calendar before you go – they have different themes and parties on certain nights of the week.

And you can buy the glasses they serve the drinks in – no need for devious licks here. Just stop by the Merch store on your way out to get your commemorative items, whether that’s a tiki cup or a hula skirt!

1923 Prohibition Bourbon Bar

Vegas has a certain mystery to it and a dark glamour, which comes from the ability to do things people feel like they “shouldn’t” do. This bar located in Mandalay bay capitalizes on that feeling because it’s a themed speakeasy.

To find it, go upstairs from House of Blues like you were going to the minus5 Ice bar. It’s right across the way. Once you walk into the bar, you’ll really understand the thrill of Vegas years ago. No password is required – but you can rent out the space and make a password-required event if you’d like!

The atmosphere isn’t all 1923 has to offer, though. They have rows and rows of American Bourbon and specialty cocktails that feature it. There’s something for everyone here, from the Maple Bacon Old Fashioned to the more trendy and tangy Tajin Temptation. You can find their drink menu and bottle list on their website.

Finally, they have live music on Friday and Saturday, with a Burlesque show by a local Vegas smoke show starting Saturday at 9 pm. They even offer private Bourbon tastings if you want to learn the tricks of the trade.

Every weekend in Vegas should include a trip back in time to 1923.

Making the Most of Your Weekend in Vegas

Vegas is a magical place, where one night you can be 100 years back in time during the prohibition era at 1923, to the islands the next night, and even on HOTH the night after that. These were just some suggestions of bars to visit during your next weekend in Vegas – but you’ll have to come multiple times to really get the Vegas experience.

We can’t wait to see you – and hope your bourbon sniffing nose is ready to work!
